In this fast-paced life, it is easier to fall into bad food habits. Therefore, it is important to get hold of what you eat and at what time. One of the easiest ways of doing so is to have the right diet to maintain good health. To get your diet plans supervised as per your health and body, people often turn to dietitians.

Does educating people about the right eating plan and nutritional type excite you? A career in Nutrition and Dietetics can turn out to be great. But how can you become a professional nutritionist and dietitian in India? This article is your guide to a successful career in nutrition and dietetics. Explore qualifications, programs, career opportunities, and expert tips to start your journey.

What is a dietitian?

Dietitians or nutritionists are professionals in treating and recognizing malnutrition and even guiding candidates to get the right diet plan as per the body’s requirements. Many dietitians work in hospitals and typically meet certain patients whom the doctor requests nutritional assessment whereas some certified nutritionists and dietitians have their own private clinics.

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics is required in order to be a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Nutritionist (RN). You might undergo one or more clinical internships.

Before getting into the nitty-gritty of the blog, let us understand the basic difference between a nutritionist and a dietitian.

A nutritionist offers general advice about the right food choices, healthy eating habits, and the connection between nutrition and overall health.  A dietitian assesses the client’s health and nutritional needs through dietary analysis, medical history, and laboratory tests.
A nutritionist organizes workshops and presentations to spread awareness and even promote healthy eating habits.  A certified dietitian develops tailored meal plans considering a person’s health conditions, allergies, preferences, and budget.
Dietitians usually work in community centers, schools, clinics, hospitals, and corporate workspaces. Dietitians teach clients about healthy eating, food portion control, and how nutrition impacts health.
Nutritionists participate in research studies, thesis, contributing knowledge about food and its impact on health.  Dietitians regularly monitor client progress, and meal plans and help clients stay motivated to achieve their goals.
